"Sage Timberline Office has the flexibility to set up the different unions' many employee benefits it's done automatically, and that's something other software packages didn't have," says Bill Doerr, purchasing agent at Linear Electric.
With its old software, Linear Electric had three people doing payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable. "And they were working hard to keep up getting all the paperwork through. With Sage Timberline Office, we were able to cut the staff to two," Doerr says.
Streamlining accounting
Doerr says Sage Timberline Office has streamlined every step they take in accounting. Payroll previously took a full day to run, but with Sage Timberline Office, it takes no more than three hours.
The software change also improved the way Linear Electric calculates union fringe benefits, which can be complicated because some involve a percentage of what the worker earns hourly and some involve a percentage of a different base hourly wage. To complicate matters further, Linear Electric currently deals with four different unions, each of which has its benefits calculated differently.
"With Sage Timberline Office, I can compensate for all these goofy little quirks in the union reporting," Doerr says. "Before Sage Timberline Office, it used to take four days to figure out what to pay a single union in fringe benefits. This week, it took just three hours to do all the unions, cutting about 90 percent of the time."
Superb support
About once a month, Doerr says he runs into a question he can't figure out and makes a call to Sage Timberline Office technical support. The experience, he says, far out performs any other software technical support he's ever called.
"It's outstanding. I couldn't ask for more in technical support," Doerr says. "With my old software, you'd have to call them and wait hours to hear back from them just to tell them what the problem is. With Sage Timberline Office, 99 percent of my calls are completely resolved within the hour."
