A diverse company with interests ranging from underground utilities to development and property management to equipment leasing, Mich.-based Diversco Construction Co. needed accounting software as versatile as itself.
Diversco was sold on Sage Timberline Office as soon as it got a demonstration. The ability to customize the software and the integration of the various modules were the biggest attractions, says Annette Bazinaw, Diversco office manager.
"Our old software was a canned program that didn't allow any room for changes of any kind to fit your specific company so we weren't very happy with it," Bazinaw says. "Sage Timberline Office allows us to customize the software for a perfect fit."
Improved efficiency
Using Sage Timberline Office saves Diversco both time and money as it improves efficiency and accuracy in accounting, Bazinaw says. "It cut payroll time in half," she says. "And because we can see what was entered into payroll before it's processed, there are a lot fewer errors."
Diversco uses Sage Timberline Office's Job Cost software to keep track of its equipment costs and charge it to the various jobs. Job Cost is also used to track when Diversco's mechanics work on the equipment. "The adaptability has just been wonderful," Bazinaw says.
Entries easily tracked
A favorite feature is the ability to attach notes to various entries, including job records, invoice records and accounts receivable or accounts payable. "It's a very neat thing," Bazinaw says. "I hate looking things up in the files so when I put an invoice in there, I always attach a note that says what it was we bought so we never have to go back into the file in the archive to look things up. It's very handy, very fast."
Bazinaw also uses the notes function to detail cash receipts, track maintenance on appliances at Diversco's rental homes and report what tasks were done by attorneys. "It takes a few more minutes at input time, but it saves a lot of time later on," Bazinaw says.
Diversco uses Sage Timberline Office's report writer functions frequently, customizing them for the company's unique needs. "It's one thing to put data into a computer, but you need to be able to get it out to use it in a form that fits. Sage Timberline Office lets us do that," Bazinaw says.
