Nabholz Construction Corp., headquartered in Conway, Ark., needed accounting software that would help it handle the complicated year-end processing of its four separate companies located in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.
With total annual gross sales of $225 million and more than 1,500 W-2s and 250 1099s to process, it was no simple matter.
Seamless payroll records
Throughout the year, Nabholz processes payroll separately for each of the four companies, but it combines payroll records at year-end for tax reporting purposes and quarterly for magnetic media reporting.
Before moving to Sage Timberline Office accounting software in 1996, Nabholz had to send payroll records to a programmer for special processing to combine all four companies' records for year-end reporting purposes.
Sage Timberline Office's "Move Employees" command lets Nabholz Information Services Specialist Gina Goodnight merge all the employee payroll records into a single file for each of Nabholz's four companies.
Crunch-time guide adds assurance
Being able to process the payroll records in-house using Sage Timberline Office accounting software saves Nabholz both time and money, Goodnight says.
"Running a single report for each of our four tax ID numbers is a big help. It greatly streamlines our W-2 and 1099 reporting," Goodnight says.
Sage Timberline Office's Year-End Procedures Guide, which Nabholz receives as part of its Sage Timberline Office service plan is also a big help, she says. She explains how she carefully reads through the guide, highlights everything that applies to Nabholz, including procedures for multiple companies, multiple states, processing W-2s and 1099s after starting a new accounting year and running magnetic media. "The documentation in the guide is very thorough and saves me from making my own checklist of what needs to be done," Goodnight says.
